Senior QA Automation Engineer
About the role
Own how io.tt tests its platform: the strategy, the stack and the quality bar.
You'll decide where testing effort goes, write the frameworks that enforce it, and be the person product, design and engineering turn to when they want to know whether something is ready to ship. There are good foundations to build on and plenty still to shape. In your first few months you'll map where our real risks are, get a cross-service end-to-end suite gating CI, and agree a quality bar the whole team signs up to.
Global brands put io.tt QR codes and NFC tags on their products. When someone scans one, our platform works out which brand and campaign the tag belongs to, applies the brand's rules and risk checks, and sends the person to the right experience in milliseconds. Behind that, every scan is recorded for analytics, pushed live to the brand's dashboard, and passed on to their own tools, from CRMs to data warehouses.
Brands build and change those experiences themselves, and tags printed years ago still have to work. That makes for some interesting testing problems: a product driven largely by configuration, data that has to add up across services, and a long tail of published experiences that must not break when we ship.
Our stack is TypeScript throughout, on Node and Bun services, with PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis on AWS, Next.js on the front end and GitHub Actions for CI.
The role is hybrid, with regular time together in our central London (E1) office. We agree the pattern as a team. You'll also get one week a year working from anywhere (on UK hours), 20 days' holiday plus a festive shutdown with an extra day for each year of service (up to 5), private medical insurance with Vitality after probation, a company pension and sick pay, and a cycle to work scheme. In the office there's breakfast, drinks and snacks, regular team events, a dog-friendly policy and a casual dress code.
You'll need the right to work in the UK. We aren't able to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
To apply, email careers@io.tt with your CV and a few lines on a test framework or quality strategy you've built and what you'd change about it now.
What you'll do
- Define the test strategy for the platform: what quality means for us, where the real risks are and where testing effort should go
- Build and maintain cross-service end-to-end and integration suites (Playwright or similar) that gate CI and that teams trust
- Set the quality bar with product, design and engineering, and hold it when deadlines get tight
- Protect backward compatibility so published customer experiences keep working as features and schemas change
- Test experiences that brands configure themselves, using contract, model-based and property-based testing
- Validate analytics and data across PostgreSQL and MongoDB, from pipeline integrity to aggregation accuracy
- Own visual regression and cross-browser and cross-device testing for published experiences
- Build WCAG accessibility checks into the pipeline
- Use AI-assisted tools to generate tests, then review and harden what they produce
What we're looking for
- Strong, hands-on TypeScript. You write test code to the same standard as production code, and you're comfortable reading a Node or Bun back end to work out what to test.
- You've built E2E and integration frameworks from scratch and run them in CI, as gates that teams trust rather than work around.
- A risk-based approach to testing. You can take a product that's only partly specified, work out what matters most, and turn that into a prioritised plan. You care more about the right tests than the number of tests.
- You've owned quality across teams: set a quality bar, explained it to product, design and engineering, and held it under pressure.
- 5+ years in test engineering on web-based SaaS, including time where you owned the test strategy, not only carried it out.
- Experience with contract, model-based or property-based testing, data and analytics validation, visual regression, accessibility testing, or a background in CMS, analytics or other configuration-heavy SaaS products
